About Us

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, which devastated Jamaica as a Category 5 storm on October 28, 2025, the Rise for Jamaica movement has mobilized Alberta’s Jamaican diaspora and allies to provide comprehensive, strategic support for immediate relief and long-term recovery.

Under the leadership of the National Black Coalition of Canada – Edmonton Chapter, Rise for Jamaica is coordinating a province-wide response that goes beyond emergency aid to build sustainable pathways for healing and community resilience.

We are reaching out to request your support in this critical effort.

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen Edmonton’s role in enhancing the welfare of beloved Jamaica. Through three strategic phases—Relief, Response & Recovery, we are committed to supporting Jamaica in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

Together with community partners and supporters across Edmonton, we are working intentionally and collaboratively to uplift families, rebuild communities, and restore hope.

Our Goal

In response to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, the diaspora, led by the National Black Coalition of Canada, is working together to raise $100,000 Canadian or more for Hurricane Relief in Jamaica.

This effort is possible through various events and the collective fundraising efforts being carried out throughout Edmonton.
